Deutsche Telekom and Bankhaus Metzler are launching a pilot project for Bitcoin mining using surplus energy from renewable sources. The goal of the project is to gather data for future initiatives and confirm the effectiveness of regulating the energy grid through mining, as has already been done in the USA and Finland.
The mining will be managed by Metis Solutions GmbH, with containers located on the premises of Riva GmbH Engineering in Backnang, which utilizes solar energy. Telekom MMS will ensure the operation of the devices, while Bankhaus Metzler will analyze the data and explore financial service opportunities with digital assets.
According to Oliver Niederle, the growing number of renewable sources requires quick solutions to absorb fluctuations in energy supply. "Surplus energy is converted into digital values through miners," he noted. Hendrik König emphasized the importance of blockchain technologies in business and the need for a reliable partner to manage crypto assets.
