The European Union is investing €1.4 billion in 2025 to support the advanced technology sector to compete with the U.S. and China. The funding will be provided through the European Innovation Council (EIC) as part of the Horizon Europe program, which is €200 million more than in 2024.
European policymakers see technology and artificial intelligence as key to strengthening the economy. "The European Innovation Council has become an essential tool for supporting breakthrough innovations in the EU," noted EU Commissioner Iliana Ivanova.
