Tesla has come under scrutiny for its autonomous driving software.
On October 18, 2024, NHTSA launched an investigation into 2.4 million Tesla vehicles equipped with the Full Self-Driving (FSD) system due to four accidents, one of which was fatal, that occurred in low visibility conditions.
The regulator will examine how effectively FSD responds to low-visibility situations and whether system updates have been significant enough to improve its performance. The investigation involves models S, X, 3, Y, and Cybertruck from 2016 to 2024.
Experts believe that weather conditions may affect the performance of the cameras and expect a thorough analysis from the regulators.
Tesla previously noted that FSD requires active driver participation and does not make the vehicle fully autonomous.
