Italian tax authorities plan to increase the capital gains tax on Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to 42% as part of the 2025 budget. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Economy Maurizio Leo at a press conference, reported by the local publication Il Sole 24 Ore.
"We plan to increase the capital gains tax on Bitcoin from 26% to 42%," Leo said. These measures were approved by the Council of Ministers and aimed at raising funds to support families, youth, and businesses.
Since 2023, capital gains above 2,000 euros have been taxed at a rate of 26% after new cryptocurrency taxation rules were introduced. Previously, cryptocurrencies were treated as foreign currency with lower tax rates.
