Google accidentally promoted a fake Unichain website that spammed users with withdrawal requests from their wallets. Scammers took advantage of the hype surrounding the new Ethereum Layer 2 Uniswap network and promoted the site unlchalindefi[.]com through Google ads. This site pretended to be the official Uniswap Unichain resource but actually stole users' funds.
After connecting their wallet through the fake site, users were faced with constant transaction confirmation requests that drained their funds. MetaMask warned of the scam, but those who didn't notice the warning could lose their assets.
The official site Unichain.org couldn't make it to the top of search results while scammers bought ads. After Google's intervention, the ads were removed, but the incident showed how easy it is to fall victim to such schemes in Web3.
