Google has signed an agreement with the American company Kairos Power to purchase small modular reactors (SMR) to supply its data centers with clean energy.
The first reactor is planned to be commissioned by 2030, with subsequent ones by 2035. Thanks to this agreement, up to 500 MW of clean energy will enter the US energy grid to support the development of artificial intelligence technologies.
Kairos Power is developing reactors with a molten salt cooling system, which will reduce construction time and adapt them for local needs.
