TikTok is cutting hundreds of employees worldwide, including a significant number in Malaysia, with a shift to AI for content moderation. Although earlier reports indicated the layoff of more than 700 jobs in Malaysia, the company clarified that fewer than 500 people are affected.
Content moderators were notified of the layoffs via email. TikTok confirmed that these layoffs are part of a global plan to improve moderation operations.
The company also plans additional layoffs next month and is investing $2 billion in security, with 80% of violating content being removed automatically.
