Zimbabwe has announced the launch of its state cryptocurrency $RZ (Republican Meme-Cryptocurrency), which will be available on February 11, 2025, via the platform pump.fun on the Solana blockchain. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the financial independence of the country's 16 million citizens and integrating with global crypto ecosystems. Importantly, all tokens will be distributed fairly without pre-mining, ensuring transparency in the process.
Zimbabwe's President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, stated that $RZ will help the country strengthen its position in the global financial arena and called for collaboration with international partners. The first phase of the project includes the introduction of cryptocurrency payments in agriculture, starting with tobacco and lithium, as well as collaboration with mobile operators for purchasing tariffs via $RZ.
